Looking at the chain stays, the drive side is round and the new is oval so that makes it need a wider entry into the BB shell

It was initially built by Sigma Sport with Campy Chorus.

If used with a 102 mm BB, then Chorus would have had an identical chainline to current UT.

Possibly your builder used a 111 mm BB to make it work.

There's sometimes a buggy.
How many drivers does a buggy have?

One.

So let's just say I'm drivin' this buggy...
and if you fix your attitude you can ride along with me.

Can't remember why I had the FSA MegaEXO BB fitted in the beginning, not sure if UT was available in spring 2006? What do you mean about a 102mm and 111mm BB, I thought they were all the same in a 68mm BSA BB shell?

UT was 2007.

I'm assuming your 2006 Chorus used a square taper BB.

Standard spindle length for Chorus was 102mm. But 111 mm was also available.

It would have taken 5 mins for your LBS to try a Shimano crankset. That would have confirmed the frame problem.

excellent example. although not really "alignment". it just looks like the stays welded in the wrong location.

compare the junction of the DS chainstay with the shell, with OP's. Look at the distance to the edge.

nowhere near the same.

You won't know without checking! can't assume anything from pictures
Before having anything done to the frame I'd want to know for sure what's out

Agreed. I don't think there's too many LBS's capable though.

It would take a framebuilder.

You got me thinking now. I must have speced the FSA crank BB combo as I wanted the external cups and did not want the square taper set up on a "modern" bike. That may explain why it does not fit as it may have never been intended to. But how can the chainline on the FSA be so different to the UT if both are standard and the frame is 68mm? Does this mean that a full chorus/record 11 set up wont work without major surgery? I doubt i'd easily find a frame builder prepared to worth on the 6/4 Ti and even if I could I bet it would be costly... This is partly why I'm, looking for new bike (in another thread) as this one may have got beyond the point of usefulness. Probably if I'd had Shimano from the start all would have been fine but I just don't particularly like it... saying that though as even Pinarello/Colnago are using Shimano on their race bikes maybe the time has come...

What myself and others are saying is that it appears that the frame has been bad from day 1.

I cannot speak to FSA chainline, but as I've already said, both Campy and Shimano have had the same chainline for a very long time. So if Campy won't work then Shimano won't either.

The original reason your builder was able to use a square taper Chorus crank, was that he used a longer spindle, and never told you. He would have run into the problem you have today if he has used the correct spindle, since the 2006 Chorus chainline is the same as today's.

I wonder if you still have your original square taper crank/BB and could check the length.

OK, I think I've giving the wrong impression somewhere. I'v never had a square taper BB in. When I got the frame in 2006 I had full Chorus put on but I now remember that I have the FSA MegaEXO BB and chainset put in because I didn't want a square taper in, so the frame has only ever had 2 BB's in, both FSA MegaEXO. Sorry

OK it was your use of "full Chorus" that gave the impression. Especially since it was not relevant to your issue.

I looked up FSA chainline. It's 43.5 mm exactly the same as Campy and Shimano.

I think I'm out of new ideas. Other than a badly made frame.

I'd try a different Ultra Torque crank just to see how it fits.
