Hi folks,

Im contemplating picking up a cheap CAAD9 frame and building it up as a 1x11 for crit racing. I would run Athena rear der & shifter. Im curious what cranks people might recommend. My knees and ankles seem pretty sensitive to Q factor changes (given how finicky they are to my cleat setup) so I'd prefer something not massively wider than the chorus cranks on my other bike, however other than that I am completely happy with any frankenstein setup as long as it is not too spendy. Somewhat curious about running an absolute black "AERO SRAM 1X DM" however for the cost of the chain ring and crank I could just about get a record crank and remove one chain right.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Best,

phillipivan.

Go with the Record cranks and move a chainring if you want. Or buy a set of older Hollowgrams and just remove one ring.

You could purchase a chain keeper (like this one: https://www.universalcycles.com/shoppin ... ategory=54) if you don't buy narrow-wide chainrings.

I have a singlespeed set up on my CX-9 cross frame, but I use an FSA carbon guard on the outside and a K-Edge cross chainkeeper: https://www.universalcycles.com/shoppin ... ategory=54. It worked well. Previously, I used a DA7800 crankset with one chainring removed and an old clamp-on FD that I bent the cage on to keep from dropping the chain.
