Road/Light Gravel allround tire
Moderator: robbosmans
HI
Looking for new tires for gravel road commuting. Like 60 % road and 40 gravel
On my list
Challenge Almonzo Open tublar
Challenge Gravel Grinder Open tublar
Maybe Clement X´plor USH or MSO
My number 1 choice right now is the Almonzo
Somebody using them and can give a short Review or somebody using the other onses and can give a Review.

Get a wide slick tire, these work well on gravel and have no side knobs that will annoy you when cornering on asphalt.
How wide a tire can your bike fit?
- Panaracer Gravelking 26 or 28. I run the 26s and they are a great allrounder.
- Vittoria Open Pave 27, if you can still find some. Have these on the Ritchey and they can do it all. Rode lots of gravel in Austria and Slovenia on these.
- Challenge Strada Bianca. Made for Gravel, great on asphalt, I commute on these.
- Conti GP 4000s in 25 (come out as 27) or 28 (30+). Very fast, light, great puncture protection, slightly wooden ride even at low pressure.
- Vittoria Open Corsa CX 28 Graphene (already available?) - Vittoria wants these to replace the Open Paves.
- Anything by Compass/Grand Bois - Also made for gravel. I have a pair of Jon Bon Pass waiting to go onto my new ti build, but haven't ridden them yet.

My bike can fit 38 or 40 so pretty wide tires.
I will look up the ones above.
As I like the tan side walls the Strada Bianca looks good.
I have the Robeux Pro 30 today but I Think it will not be so good on gravel but I have not yet tried - too much snow.

I agree that slicks work just as well on gravel and I really like the michelin pro4 endurance in 28. on a 23mm rim it expands to 30mm, good ride, good durability.
I'm really not a fan of any of the challenge clinchers, I think the durability is very low.

I have the x'plor USH on a set of Stans rims and Conti Grand Prix 4 Seasons on a set of HED Belgium + rims. Use both sets on my Seven Mudhoney. No problems with either, but then to run the Stans/X'Plors on predominantly dirt/gravel rides and the HEDs/Conti on predominantly hardpacked/road rides. No problems either way.
Current: Seven 622 SLX | Seven OVRLND XX | Fondriest Carbon Magister | Yeti SB100 |

I really like my 28 gravel kings. Super durable and roll fairly well. I run them with latex tubes to help with pinch flats when running low pressures. Anything bigger then 28 in most cases to me isn't fast anymore. They are also reasonably priced.

I agree with slicks too, just get the widest you can fit.
About the 28mm Pro4's, did you measure them on a regular rim too by any chance??
Ride it like you stole it
I can fit 38 mm tire.
I hear what u mean but if I want to go like light singletrack isn´t a knobby tire better.
I understand that no tire is supergood at Everything.
Right now my top picks are still - I really like TAN sides
Challenge Strada Bianca or Almonzo or Gravel Grinder
I looked at the Schwalbe G ONE but like 460 grams they are Heavy.
My plan is to have one wheelset with gravel/ruff roads - tires AND one wheelset with fast summer road tires lika Speed Corsa TRL or Pro One.

Ok - I have looked up the S-one - seems good and got a lot of good reviews.
Also the Strada Bianca has good reviews.
I´m having a hard time making up my mind.
Go tubeless seems good but I don´t like the looks on Schwalbe
Going with Challenge but I can´t make up my mind about all black or the black/tan option.
The bike is a Specialised Diverge CEN (black/dark grey color.) Tune chainrings, Enve seat post and Enve bar.
At first I was all set on tan sidewalls but the yellow area is kind of big.
For summer tire I´m almost 100 % to go Vittoria Corsa Speed TLR - they are tan sidewalls.
Another option is the Vittoria Corsa G+ for allround use in 28 mm but they are hard to find in stock in the EU.
What do u think? All black or Tan?
Tubless or not tubeless?

Can't mount Challenge tubeless!!
Hutchinson Sector 28 or wait for Sector 32.
Perhaps take a look at Hutchinson Black Mamba (tubeless 34mm)?

Challenge PR or SB are awesome.....Hutchinson 32 will probably measure 25 if they size like any of their other tires.
