Back on the bike after 25 years, Baum or Passoni
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi Everyone,
I really could do with some help please. So back on the bike again and going through a mid life crisis. Looking for the best Ti bike and I have arrowed it down to a Baum or a Passoni, this is going to be a one off bike purchase and I will keep this for another 25 years at least. So please can you kindly advise me to on what direction. I want a comfortable bike and something that looks good as I do love art and appreciate fine craftsmanship. I have a budget of 15k GBP max. Thank you for your help!

Can't really make a bad choice.
I suggest you take a look at this website, as they feature amazing bikes from both builders:

You should put Kent Eriksen and Firefly on your shortlist
Part of the allure of a baum is the paint job. For a bike you plan on keeping for that long, I think a raw finish would be a wiser choice.

i have no experience in Ti or with Baum or Passoni. But i think Passoni bikes look great and so I strongly advise you to go down that route. Might want to do some riding on some other bike and get a feel for what you like position wise and then get a good fitting for it. And for that budget i recommend a power meter too (probably SRM on campag crank) because they are great fun and engaging and it will be nice for you tracking your fitness as it markedly improves over the first year.

Nobody does it better than Baum. And if you are interested in light, as your being here suggests, Baum really pushes the envelope. If I were you I would choose Baum and then ask him to compare Ti with stainless steel for you. I love my Ti, but man that stainless is fine. See which one he can bring in lighter with similar "best" riding characteristics.

Guys, thank you all for the feedback. The biggest issue I have is not seeing never mind trying the bikes out. I good bike show may just solve the problem.
Anyone own a Passoni can give me their feedback please? I have heard from a Baum owner and he loves his bike!

Personally, I'd have trouble buying a very expensive custom bike that I'd never seen before nor ridden. I once bought what I thought was going to be my dream bike and it wasn't.
