New Cervelo R5 purchase advice!
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi guys,
Here are my two R5 options (2016 model)
1. Ex-demo from a bike shop, no marks on the bike at all, Dura-ace Di2 9070, $7000 AU
2. Private owner, new (insurance claim), never ridden, Dura-ace Mech 9000, $5000 without the HED wheels.
I have zipp 303's that i will be using, so i would sell the #1 wheels for ~ $700 perhaps and it would bring it down to $6300.
What would you guys do? I think #1 comes with warranty on the frame, #2 doesn't as its with the original owner.
i would be using it mostly for training/riding solo etc. and a bit of racing (5-10%).

So the net is around 1300AU($900US to me) for getting DA Di2 and a full warranty bike as new, and you are asking us? Just the Di2 is worth that.
My vote is #1 and never look back. Warranties on Cervelos are invaluable. Nice bike btw

+1 on Di2 & warranty & spare wheelset
Also important, you are going to get some love from your LBS, good relationship with them is always nice.

I love mine but I'd be hesitant to buy a Cervelo without a warranty unless it was really cheap.
I'd only buy a used carbon bike or frame, regardless of make, if it was at a price that I'd be ok with if it didn't last too long.
If I'm shelling out the above type of money I'd dig a bit deeper in my pockets to get the warranty.
I've used the lifetime warranty Cervelo has so that just reaffirms to buy new with a warranty.

Update - I decided on the mech without warranty, got it down to $4500. Reasoning is that I have insurance on my bike with a $100 excess. Claims don't affect my premiums either. I'm much more likely to crash it! I always kind of wanted mech as I haven't even ridden electronic before
$4500 (AUD?) That's a good price!!! I hope photos will follow soon
