I have blatantly lifted from another forum some base groupset weights where it is now becoming obvious that we now need to include cables that have been previously left out. I have added the weight of a mechanical cableset at 175 g and an electronic one at 50 g ? to come up with a revised ranking.

Here is my attempt at a new ranking:

1. Sram Red 22 eTap: 1970 grams + 0 = 1970 g

2. Sram Red 22: 1845 grams (GXP) + 175 = 2020 g

3. Dura-Ace 9070 Di2: 2034 grams (internal battery) + 50 ? = 2084

4. Campy Super Record: 1940 grams + 175 = 2115 g

5. Campy SR EPS v3: 2078 grams + 50 ? = 2128

6. Dura-Ace 9000: 1998 grams + 175 = 2173 g

7. Campy Record: 2039 grams + 175 = 2214 g

please feel free to add comments etc

So does that mean the lightest combo is full RED mechanical group with DA9070 upgrade kit with internal battery?

Humor does not always travel well on the interwebs. Nor is this forum known for it.

If you used something like the Powercordz Swift cableset with the mechanical groups the order would change.
Powercordz Swift inner and outer for brake and derailleur, for my bike weights 70g in total.

It's a valid point as cables do count towards the total weight of a bike. However as others have pointed out, assuming 175 g across the board is difficult. Smaller bikes with external routing will have less cable than bigger bikes with internal routing. Not to mention lighter weight after market cables.

I thought that even with internal routing, the cable outer didn't run through the frame? That was certainly the case with the rear brake of a past frame I had.

I think it makes sense to use the manufacturers cableset for this comparison. However there was a basic error in my first post as I should have added derailleur cables only. Therefore I'd suggest 70 g instead of 170 g.

This would affect the rankings, but not the point I'm making.

I don't agree that bike size makes much difference. Less than variation between groups with different size cranksets or cassettes.
