Best 10 speed group? Or try to convert wheelset?

I have a pair of carbon clinchers i'd like to use in conjunction with my old Scott Addict ISP frame. Unfortunately the hubs on my wheelset are some type of unknown Joytech derivative and I'm not sure if they can be converted to 11 speed.

I'm thinking of going with old 2x10 sram red or force, or shimano 7800 or 7900 dura ace. What would you pick? I'm planning on using this as my backup bike and am not looking to spend too much money. ideally I would grab the shimano 105 5800 group on wiggle for $399, but the wheelset is a problem. One last resort would be to just try to sell the frame and wheelset separately and start over, but I don't see either going for much money these days.

Thanks!

I'd try to convert the wheelset to 11sp if 11sp is the priority. The hub most likely has a wider freehub available, even if there aren't any, you can machine some material off the back of the hub and get a 11sp cassette in.
If you'd rather go 10sp than do that, then...well, I'd go for Shimano 105 5700 or SRAM Rival/Force. My 105's have more than 20000 km on them and still functioning great.

I bought a 10 speed DA 7900 BMC in 2013, a 10 speed Sram Red Ridley in 2014 and a 10 speed XTR 985 Giant in 2015.
The BMC and Giant were new and on sale, and the Ridley is secondhand. Some people are so obsessed with getting the latest stuff that they prefer an 11 speed 105 bike over a 10 speed Dura Ace bike at the same price. I on the other hand am obsessed with finding great value at crazy low prices. :D
For sure, my bikes are less future proof, but I will be able to find parts for years to come. I can still easily find stuff for my 9 speed DA 7700 winter bike. And in a few years, should they ever come up with a 12 speed group, I may get an 11 speed finally, at a discount ofcourse...

And what group is best? I prefer Shimano over Sram. More durable and better shifting.

DA 7800 is quite perfect. Shimano have not bettered it. 7700 and 7403 are pretty good too. 7900 not so much and 9000 well 1055800 and ultegra 6800 are just as good so spend more.

7800 without a doubt, but be open to combining ultegra and dura ace. The magic in Dura Ace apparently is mostly in the shifters.

Holy freehub wear batman...
Machine off the back end of the freehub 1.85 mm, and you'll be able to fit a 11sp cassette there.

actually, you only need .85mm of grinding, as the shimano 10s cassettes use a 1 mm spacer.

Take a dremel and grind down the raised parts of the freehub body that the cassette sits on to, and it'll most likely work just fine. I've done 3 separate lower end wheelsets that way, and not had any issues. You can test fit it with a ten speed cassette and a .85mm spacer. Most 11s hubs come with them, and if your friendly with a bike shop, they'll likely just give you one...

Buy 11 speed shifters.

Then run an 11 speed cassette with a cog removed.

Use the limit screws to keep away from that eleventh gear.

Now you're future-proofed, with minimal compromise.

Since they are your wheels, and you're not swapping around to other bikes, you should be able to get a pretty clean-shifting setup.

I doubt you could get it set up to run cleanly on 10speed, and then just drop in an 11speed wheel without some fiddling.

AFAIK Shimano 11sp cassettes are 2.85 mm taller, you'll need to grind off 1.85 mm to get to the correct width.

Don't start grinding just yet!

First clean the wheel :P and save like 100 grams

Second pull it out and lets see the pawl system, I have been very lucky in converting many kinds of wheels to 11speed with freehubs from Novatec.

You're right - the 10s spacer is a 2mm spacer. my bad.
