Light weight fast rolling hubs
Moderator: robbosmans
I am looking at a new build and want to get a few opinions on hubs out there. Presently i have HED c2's with Chris King r45 and a couple of set of Dura Ace c24's and c35's along with a few Far sports wheelsets. I really like the Chris king but i keep reading that they are not really a smooth rolling hub due to seal drag? I am looking to build another set for a new bike and want a few opinions which i am sure there are a few here

fast rolling hubs = loose ball bearings cup and cone hubs (shimano and campagnolo) but these are not light although they are easily serviceable and bombproof

There are no significant differences in the internal drag of decent quality hubs all the way up to the very best. As long as they are assembled/adjusted properly, the deceleration of a moving rider and bicycle due to the hub internals is just too small to notice. That's actually good news. One less thing you have to worry about.

Stiffness and reliability make more difference. I'm not even convinced about ceramic bearings as their load ratings are less than steel ones, so they wear out much faster.
Thanks all and thanks to NT, that article was really helpful.
