As the title states.....I've never seen a picture of a non-Bstay C40 Mapei World Champion....is there such a thing ? If so, what is a fair price for one ? I have a chance to buy one, but at first blush I did not realize there was such an animal.

Thanks for any feedback..

Regards

There has never been a non-B Stay C40 in World Champion paintjob.

I've got a non B Stay C 40 in World Championship paint but it doesn't have the Mapei logo.

As in an HP C 40?

No as in traditional rear triangle, pre B Stay, pre HP.

Again, I have never ever seen a C40 first edition in World Champion colors.
The one I always remember is the one of Oscar Freire with the B Stay.

If you would have a complete bike picture it would be much appreciated.
Thanks :beerchug:

I'll get the bike out and take a full picture. Don't know why you don't believe me? I've shown you the picture of the stays?

There must be more of them with classic stays since I build at least two years ago.

I've seen em before online. Soon no guarantee to authenticity, sorry. And I have also used the EBay Seller in Question, also with good results. But with their feedback being fairly low for me. I'm guessing it was also low $ purchases. Sorry, I cannot be any more helpful.

Seems a little odd that the factory would paint one of the old frames in WC colours. I do know that Maestro were able to get frames painted by the Benelux distributor a while back, so there may be odd one kicking around.

When Olano or Museeuw won their titles, in 95 & 96 respectively, on Colnago bikes Mapei didn't provide special WC frames for them. Even Freire was on a stock Mapei C40 in 2000, probably because he won the 99 title on an Olmo. I don't recall seeing a WC one until he'd won his second title, this time on a actual Colnago. ;)

At the time Maestro would paint every paintscheme wanted by the customer (and at a way better quality than colnago did) best thing way the colnago guarantee stayed intact. Had my C40 done in the saronni style and they did a perfect job (whereas Colnago never seemed able to get the red colour right going from red-brown tot red-purple)

It's funny but I view Colnago etc paintjobs in the same way as Ferrari. Everyone has a particular shade of red in their head but the shade varies wildly over the years.
