My quick thoughts:
1) In a sprint everything else being equal an aero bike vs 'standard' might be worth at max say a bike length (bike calculator can tell you that). Even if its only a 1/10 of that, I'll take it thanks.
2) In the peloton the benefits of an aero bike may diminish considerably, however...
3) If you can save say only 5W and that is the difference between being over or under threshold, then that can cause a significant performance differential at the later end of a race.
4) Owning an aero frame does not seem to matter to some people. In fact, aero frames seem to upset some people.

Peter Sagan is quite a good rider.

But he is wearing a Prevail helmet and not an Evade. So the cooler head comfort either allowed him to think better than Cav and pick the right line or, had he worn the Evade, he would have won by a larger margin... :frightened:

The shape of ridley looks really fast... but a bit disappointed...

Neither. That's why we use concepts such as normalized power rather than average power, which provide a rough way to account for the non-linearities involved.

There's a PhD out there waiting for someone to come up with a more data-driven "Normalized Power 2.0" which more accurately maps a function of power over time to perceived exhaustion/exertion.
