Hello. I tried setting up my front mech, first time using a carbon clamp on. I also use a downtube shifter.
Any advice would be welcome. When I pull my shifter to go across on the big ring all that happens is the derailleur starts to pull down towards the bb/floor.
I dare not pull any harder as it feels like something will give. I have a downtube shifter " not clamp on" on my other bike and it works fine.
So advice would be welcome. Its a Sram red older model. [ not a YAW]

Tightening the clamp would be a place to start if it is pulling down.

If it is already 'tight' then are you sure it is the right size? Sometimes even a piece of insulating tape around the frame under the clamp is enough to improve both the fit and the grip.

Carbon paste, rubber adhesive, insulation tape.
All will improve the grip between clamp and tube.

Thanks. The clamp is very tight. I did use carbon paste. I dare not tighten anymore. I will give the tape a go. That seems like a good option.

I had the same problem with my Parlee clamp. They included a piece of plastic tape in the kit, but the tape did not help [too soft].

I used cloth tape and it worked out great, never moved again. With the adhesive on one side and the cloth on the other side, there was enough friction to hold just fine.

Are you sure you have the cable routed correctly to the pinch bolt? I have run it wrong and been unable to shift.

That's a good point I have done simple mistakes , we all learn through experience. In this case though cable is correct .

Also consider a different clamp on front derailleur bracket. Its possible your frame diameter is a hair too small. And the clamp on the bracket is a hair too large. All very close to the stated size, but slightly, slightly off. Enough to give slippage when combined. So maybe in addition to the tape, you may need a different clamp bracket. Carbon or aluminum, doubt it makes much difference.

Thanks Russell. The clamp is very tight /snug. The movement is not slippage. When I pull the shifter to go on the big ring it pulls the mech downwards.
I have just ordered a few bits and bobs so will have a go at it when they arrive.

I got it sorted, it was the red mech. I put another one on and it worked . I just used a couple plastic washers round the lever and.a powercordz. I realised from the advice that it should not have been such an issue. Thanks for your help
