One of the screw / nut,s on my Tune skyline skewers has worn. I tried re tapping the thread "m5" but no joy.
So I then tried to use another M5 screw /bolt but only to fine that they do not work and tune seem to have a custom size i.e. M5 does not fit.
I will call posh bikes and see if I can get a replacement Screw/ nut.
Any WW's had the same issue?

From what I'm aware, Tune uses M5 fine thread on their skewer locknuts, which is M5x0.5. It has a higher TPI than M5 course thread, which measures M5x0.8mm. Needless to say the two aren't compatible. Wert locknuts also have M5x0.5mm fine thread. I can try to see if I have some spares lying around.

That would be great mythical and much appreciated. If you do have any spares I obviously be happy to pay for postage etc.

Question: Would you happen to have the TT skewers, the ones that use a tool for the locknut?

If so, which one is the culprit?

I do have the TT skewers. Its the locknut that's the culprit.

Not adding anything to the discussion, but just commenting to say I admire how much you know your stuff about this!

Very good, accurate information.

How did you find this out?

I would love to supply you but I also see a problem. The Tune tool doesn't fit Wert locknuts.

Technically speaking, a special tool could be made but it would cost a lot. It'll be easier to contact Tune in Germany directly and request a replacement. Let's hope they won't charge so much.

The feeling is mutual, I also enjoy reading your posts and see you have a lot of experience with exotic parts yourself.

Funny you should ask. I worked a bike shop since about age 16. This shop mainly sold high-end mountainbikes and exotic parts, and I built many of their bikes. This is where I became acquainted with Tune, back in the 90s, and became familiar with their parts through working on them. People often called me a walking encyclopedia. Now I design bike parts myself and, through doing something similar, I have intimate knowledge of how Tune does fabrication and product R&D.

Short story. Back in 2007, I found myself walking through Interbike together with Thomas Frischknecht. It was just he and I, with almost no other people around. We discussed stuff like skewers, and he asked me if carbon skewers rods were possible. I said I didn't see why not and explained to him about forces, materials and construction. Later, I realized he has a close association with Tune. Then Tune introduced the U20 skewers at some point, exactly as I described to Frischy. Glad to be of assistance, no?
