Talking from personal experience, I wouldn't purchase Stages again. I'm now on my third XTR M985 Stages crank and even though it's a mountain bike crank, it's not been off road. The weather proofing is poor and even though the customer support is responsive, it doesn't help that the design is very poor. Worst still, I bought a Dura-Ace Stages crank too (just in the process of trying to send that back). I've lost count of the number of o-rings, battery cases and batteries I've been through. Shame but if it's even remotely damp where you live, I'd avoid Stages.

Even with the new design, or are those issues with the 'old' 1st gen design?

I've just been sent one of the brandnew G2 versions to replace a unit which was only purchased brandnew back in June 2015. This is the third brandnew unit I've had on my mountain bike in those 6 months

I have to say that I've been holding back with the one I just send back for replacement, even avoiding going out cycling when it was even slightly damp. To have identical problems with both XTR M985 and Dura-ace 9000 units isn't bad luck. I don't want to sound like I'm having a go at Stages. They're very responsive when it comes to their on-line support but the last 6 months have been very stressful and cost me a fortune both in time, batteries and postage.

There are some newses that Rotor is testing new inpower, which would have left and right leg power measuring.

I would choose Stages + Beeer or Quarq

I am on my third stages although my latest one has proved to be reliable. They are great at sorting out problems and maybe the Gen2 design has solved the problem of water ingress but it is early days on that. I would not buy another Stages at this moment.

All my friend first gen stage have problem of some sort. The newer version should be better made. Cant go wrong with power2max. Fit and forget - functional in all weather condition and price was dropped too.

i have had a SRAM Quarq since 2009. 5k to 7k miles are year in nasty midwestern (USA) conditions. sent back 3 times for issues and warrantied once. i have been very happy with it and their customer service is top notch.

Friend of mine has issues with his rev02 Stages as well (in combination with a Garmin Edge 520).
Therefore I've opted to go with the Pioneer SGY-PM910HL Power Meter Shimano Dura Ace 9000 and the Pioneer SGX-CA500. Using it this calendar year without *any* issues. To me it seems like a robust system (certainly if I compare the firmware upgrade process with for example Garmin).

My choice would be p2m.

Hmm. The Pioneer omission seems rather silly. In my research, it seemed to offer the most for the money, so I just bought picked one up yesterday.
