Hole in canyon headset
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi, there is a big hole through the canyon headset. I'm pretty sure that it's supposed to be that way, but I'm a bit worried that there is water coming through it and to the carbon fork. The hole goes all the way through to the fork. Do you think that it's going to be a problem with corrosion, water accumulating in the fork etc? Is it a good idea to try and replace the headset cap or maybe cover it with something?

I assume there is a hole on the bottom for water drainage.
They used to be "beefed up" - full of resin to about half way up the steerer.
Definitely no holes in there, but never filled up either

Frame will be fine but still the design of this 'cap' is ridiculous IMHO.
You could use a cocktail umbrella.

I've been using this headset on 2 different Canyons since 2012. Works great, and have never even had to adjust after original set up.
I use my mates one as an ashtray when hes not looking.

Just a piece of advise from a Canyon user myself : from time to time, especially after wet rides and extensive hosing, put the bike upside down. There is always some water coming out from there. The draining holes are not at the bottom of the fork, so, water WILL stay at the very bottomof the fork legs.
But no worry, after 2 years of use, not a single issue with it. Once set up, the headset is rock solid! And I've even replaced the acros one with a conventional HS, without expander. Not a single time have I had to touch it after the first couple of rides.
