A gear inch is a gear inch, because of that it will fit in length.
Last sunday is was out riding with the vp of sram yurp and when the chat got to chains i told him i was on a Campa chain. his first response was: 'that can't be as campa chains are wider. Does it work well?' It told him it works perfectly and he was pleasantly surprised. Nevertheless, I'm now on a sram chain. just to see how much better that will work.

I don't have a Campy chain at hand to measure, as I'm on KMC. However it is well known that a KMC link will fit a Campy chain. If the chain was wider, it wouldn't. So I believe your friend is mistaken.
I believe all 11-speed chains regardless of man. are 5.5 mm wide.
Possibly your friend is out-of-date and thinking of the 2 widths of 10-speed that have been around. As we all know, Campy was the first to market with 10-speed by several years. Their original 10-speed chain was 6.2 mm.
When Shimano came out with their version of 10-speed, the chain measured 5.9 mm. Within a year or so, Campy and the rest of the chain world standardized on 5.9 mm. Campy's was called the 'ultra narrow' chain to differentiate it from the earlier one.
Possibly the narrower chain shifted a little better, but I can't say I ever noticed much difference.

Also, KMC on sram means your warranty is void.

void your SRAM warrantee i assume. considering the only contact points are the mechs and cassette (i suppose and argument could be made that shifters could be impacted)..... and how on earth would they know
i assume campy chain on sram voids the warranty as well. how about a sram chain but with a KMC connecting link?

Lolz! just take care when you are warranting something that a sram chain is on it. From what i heard of cross riders from sun web - Napoleon games, is that the KMC sponsorship they had gave them more broken chains then KMC chains on a shimano system.
I'll stop digging my own credibility grave now.

Have you seen the questions he asks? Waiting for a new post on what to have for breakfast.
But do want to find out more about SRAM and using another chain. Was not aware of this.
