Next step...the stem body

At first I did try some thick paper for a organic shape, but this does not work well while covering it with carbon and resin.

...it was deformed

So I did listen to some friends and used Styro foam...but did not follow the general round shape ;)

first layers of carbon

At first I used some layers of carbon wattled tube. It´s against the torsion.

At the area of the screw I pulled away the carbon filaments and placed a little "tube" I made before. This way I do not need to drill a big hole there and effect the stiffnes in a bad way.

(head of screw with some tape ti mace the diameter a little bit wider)

As you can see, I wraped the edges of the carbon tube across the bar and the fork tube.

After all is satured with resin I wraped it with tear of tissure and tape

That´s not all

main layup

In my case I need some UD 0° along the fork tube, some UD 0° along the stem and a good amount of rovings wraped from the tube, the stem, to the bar, back to the tube and so on.

every time I pull it of it is like Christmas

Now it is time for the final top layer, but at first I need to sand of the folts (or you can fill them with some filler)

I made a carving pattern out of paper,...
Image

...sprayed a sheet of carpon tissue with glue,...
Image

...transfered the shape of the carving pattern and...

attached the carbon to the combo.

Now it is time for the epoxyd resin and some serious amount of tape

Are the big manufacturers making their carbon products the same way?

I know a manufacture who does it very simillar (positiv way of layup), but the big names will work with moulds (negative and pressure tube inside). With the moulds they have much better surfaces and they can reproduce on a higher level of "look a likes"...way to expensive for a me
