Looking at a road disk brakes setup: Shifter/brake unit ?
Moderator: robbosmans
I'll probably go for the FM166 frameset.
Now, I'm looking at the different groups with disk brakes unit.
What are the good options ?
Looks like Shimano RS 685 is the best bang for buck option.
SRam (Force 1 or Rival 1) doesn't have good reviews for shifting quality ?
Is it me or there is not many hydraulic models offered ?

You're right about the amount of hydraulic models offered but that's the price of wanting to be an early adapter.
So far most of the convincing parts / setups where done with Shimano (I build a di-2 setup for myself with a Isaac Boson framekit).
Still not 100% convinced that discs for road use are the way to go or just a marketing gimmick to boost sales.

Real happy with HYRD.
I felt a few Sram brakes in the store the other day (hydro) and was perplexed at how much rattle/lever movement there was without the brakes engaging at all. With proper housings on my HYRDs the brake pads move the moment my brake levers move. And yeah, HYRDs are cheap!

@djm, lever movement is essential to proper hydros. they shouldn't rattle audibly though.
hydros wont feel uber tight like you can tighten your cable brakes to with only 1mm of lever movement. there is usually a throw adjustment to compensate a bit but I like the feel of a little throw as long as you don't bottom the lever out on the bars.

Come on Louis ... wait for the Campag stuff. 2019 isn't far off.
Not sure if you are joking or please explain
I have ridden the RS685 since June every day to work and they have been great. Rode them the first time in the rain and they were great. Paired up with the amazing 5800 Shimano 105 it's great bang for the buck.
I have no experience with cable actuated dics to compare.

There's the Shimano 105 hydraulic groupset too. I have the RS685 with Ultegra cranks (CX bike) and 105 derraillers and I love it to pieces!

Ignore him, Valbrona constantly rubbishes Shimano.
