Powercordz fail
Moderator: robbosmans
Went for a ride today. Very wet. So I cleaned my bike and the front brake was very sticky and took ages to go back to the open position
.I decided to replace the cable. Was shocked to see the condition of the powercordz when I took it out. It came out easy. I feel lucky that I never had a fail. I have had trouble with one set I bought before I contacted powercordz but they never responded. Felt let down by them as I have used them for quite a while "years". No point contacting them about this as I doubt they will respond. When they work ,great but I don't think this is acceptable and you can see some of the strands have snapped off.

Image not working for me
i've had some powercordz gear cables. The derailleur clamp bolt chews them quite badly. The little rubber donuts they provide are useless. Shifting was snappy but they were a pain to initially dial in. They are way overpriced for what they are.

Image reposted . It's frayed and snapped at the shifter end.

I have used powercordz for quite some time. They have failed twice. Rear mech and now this cable shredded and parts broken at the shifter end.
I don't think the quality of this cable is as good as some others I have used.
My bikes are well looked after and there is no reason other than a cable fail for this failure.
The photo seems to have gone down again...I'm not sure why. I will repost.

Context here. Steel cables in shimano shifters fail so the fact the power cord cables can fail is not surprising. The only failure I have had with power cord is on my steel road bike. It is an integrated bottom bracket cable guide which gets filled with sticky syrup that escapes my water bottles. I think that contributed to the fraying of the cables. The brake cables however have been fine.
I have torqued the cable anchor bolts to much tighter than should be and not got a cable to fray. Then unbolt ed it and re tightened it again to an silly amount and check again. It was very flat. The cable is still in use. I had too see what they could take.
Frayed many steel cables and see frayed steel cables all the time. So if you are disapointed that cables can fray I would suggest you stop using cables.

Wow -- my PowerCordz have been problem-free. They're super-light, and work very well for me.
