I bought some Far and Near 9000 hoods a while back and installed them on my main bike with 5800. I wanted black so that's why I went for 9000 hoods and not 6800. It looks like they offer 5800 hoods now but they weren't available when I bought them (the 9000 version fit 5800 just fine BTW.) I could never really get comfortable with the stock 5800 hoods, on both of my bikes, being so thin/narrow and missed the wider 5700 hoods as soon as I upgraded to 11sp 105. By my measurements the Far and Near hoods are 1.5-2mm wider towards the widest part of the brake hood (and made of thicker rubber) which I find more comfortable. I liked them so much I bought a spare set and some for my backup bike. Anyone else use these hood covers?

I think the narrower profile of the current generation Shimano hoods are one of the things that 99% of the people like about them compared to previous gen. But good to know that there is an option for those who want a wider profile
