To upgrade to v3 you need both the interface and the power unit.

If the V2 charger is compatible with V3, it means the charging port on V3 DTI still remain the same with V2. Aaaaah disappointed that Campagnolo didn't go to USB charging route.

Can anyone confirm If the V3 battery is necessary or if is compatible with the v2 battery.

^ The new V3 interface and V3 PU MUST be used together. The V3 IF will not work with the V2 System. The rest of the components will work with the new parts (unless you have a V1 then you will also need the v2/3 style charger)

Do you still have to use the external magnet to turn off the battery with V3?

I'd go EPS all the way. Sure Campagnolo is making the finest mechanical groups to this day and age, but EPS is just the pinnacle of shifting technology these days. And the V3 allows you to do things that were just impossible to do until now, and with nothing else than a smartphone.

I thought V3 wasn't going to be available until early 2016?

The battery appears to be available but the interface says 'on order (delivery date unknown)', so maybe early 2016 is realistic for that part.

1. Shimano is not behind. I'll repeat that. They are not behind. They do not have a wireless next gen group yet, but come on guys, look at their track record of modern innovation/refinement. They did not invent electronic shifting, but they were the first to bring it to the masses. As a company they have the largest budget, especially for R&D. Guarantee something is up their sleeve.

2. Campy is always a bit behind. They don't need to innovate. They sell based on brand loyalty, functionality, and partially aesthetics/ergonomics. They don't necessarily need to reinvent the wheel every time they release something. For now, most bikes are compatible with wired groups. Running wires on MOST, not all, bikes takes very little time. It comes down to absolutely needing wireless versus personal preference. They're not lightyears behind nor would they be in trouble if they were.
Don't take me too seriously. The only person that doesn't hate Froome.
