I picked up a broken Time NXR Instinct that I'm going to repair. I've watched a bunch of repair videos and that part seems fairly straight forward. The areas that need repair on the frame don't seem that bad and repair seems to be on the easier side.

The only complication with the repair is that the cable stop on the down tube is missing. I have a replacement. The old one would need to be drilled out and the new one riveted on. I was thinking that it would be cool to get some carbon cable stops that could be glued on and integrated into the repair since the repair is right in that area but I can't seem to find any carbon cable stops online.

The other thing I'd like to do is remove the way too many Time decals and end up with a minimalist carbon look in a satin finish. I'm trying to figure out the best strategy. I wouldn't mind a set of more subtle Time decals if I could find replacements but I'm already losing the main Time decal on the down tube so it seems like i should just lose the rest of them. I can live without "fluid ride", "RTM", "Instinct", "trans link", "time-sport.com", etc.....

Anyway, the frame is already nude carbon with a satin finish and the decals don't seem to be clearcoated. Rather than carbolifting or extensively sanding the whole frame, I was thinking that maybe I should just try to remove the decals with the minimum amount of effort/sanding and then lightly wet sand the frame with maybe 600 grit. I don't mean down to the carbon but just a light sanding for a new layer of satin clear coat.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Here's the frame. One repair is where it looks like there was a chain suck situation:

This is the underside of the downtube with two spots that need repair. It's very close to the down tube cable stops:

Much of the rest of the frame has a nice finish already (minus the million decals Time installs):

I just had a look at a NXR frame...you have quite a lot of decals.

If that was my frame I would just sand down the decals and sand off the clear. Its not a big job sanding the clear off. [its not paint]
I would then leave naked and just apply aero 303 for frame protection. Its a really nice frame no funky bends etc. I like it.
if you re rivet you go one size bigger.....
I took all the cable stops off both my bikes and had them replaced with hand made minimal ones https://www.flickr.com/photos/131970499 ... 847432375/

I think I counted 16 separate decals on this frame!

I saw when you posted pics of your bike last week. It actually inspired me to get going again on this frame. What you did with the cables stops is actually what I was thinking I'd like to do. Are the cable stops carbon? Where did you source them?

Edit - you said that "Ed" did those stops for you. Who's Ed?

Hi...Ed is a friend, he is a expert with carbon. Ed makes bikes and can repair almost any fault. He his based in London UK... http://tsubasabicycles.com/

Ed made the cable stops for me to exactly fit my tune outer housing he also has made me seat-post combos and bar stem combo's etc [ Guru photo].
I'm sure he would be happy to give you some advice if your attempting the cable stops yourself. They do need to be very strong and cured. It won't work with just using carbon glue,,,I tried ages ago. It needs to be really strong.

I did make some carbon cable stops, its quite easy with a dremel. I bought the carbon on line. Beware though some of the carbon you buy has a lot of resin in the mix and its not very strong.

I made some carbon powercordz clamps for my brakes and the cable sliced right through them.

The cable stops Ed made are crazy light under a gram.

I may just rivet a new stop on as that will be the easiest and quickest thing to do. I don't have a lot of extra time to learn how to make carbon cable stops as cool as that would be.

I already started removing the decals with a razor blade and I'm about half done now.
