Thoughts on FFWD hub
Moderator: robbosmans
looking for a new carbon wheelset for hill climbing.
Having used Shamal mille, seems like those 1400g + wheels were not that geared for climbing.
(I live in South Korea, ride fairly hilly course, also need light wheels in case for North Korea invasion)
FFWD wheelset seems like a good choice, but don't know much about FFWD hub.
Anyone experienced the FFWD hub?
Is there enough reason to justify the price gap between FFWD hub and DT240s?

I'm sorry the link to your picture didn't come through. Looking on the ThaiMTB forum I'd say you are looking for the FFWD f2R wheel set. That is a tubular set and the latest FFWD wheels all use DT hubs nowadays. DT makes quite a lot of hubs though. and in the cheaper option they probably have used the DT350 hub. Those aren't exactly the pinnacle of engineering and bombproofness. the front hub will be good the rear hub will roll etc, but the 240 will keep you happy for a longer time.

FFWD wheels come with a choice of their own FFWD branded hubs which have DT internals or DT hubs
I have a set of the FFWD hubs and can't tell any difference between them and my DT hubs on another set of wheels.
They have been reliable with zero issues in nearly 2 years.

The FFWD hubs on my wheels are made by KT (Kun Teng). I've found them to be robust and reliable. Not quite the quality of engineering of my other DT240s set but still a good quality product that withstands regular use.
My thinking is that if you're wanting a hub for heavy use, keep a long time and replace rims etc then DT is a worthy investment. Alternatively their own-brand will be just fine for the life of the wheelset.

i'm using F6R with D240s hub. cant really tell if there is any different with my previous campag USB hub in term of smoothness

I would reckon the increase in price of dt240 hubs will pay for itself when u sell the ffwd wheelset...

Much appreciated.
I might go for FFWD F2R with FFWD hub.
have you get your wheelset? care to share your experience on hubs and wheelset as overall?

Got F4R DT240s matte black.
It looks cool, and rolls like heaven.
Even though being much cheaper than Zipp's or Enve's, it shows comparable performance.
I would say FFWD is a pretty good choice if you want to save some money and buy other components with it.

Got f6r dt240s.
Rolls well makes decent freewheeling sound (18t ratchet) and pretty ok in windy days.
Should I decide to keep it longer, I could even upgrade to 36t or 54t ratchet for reasonable prices. If I crash the rims I can rebuild the hub with another rim. Easily available dt swiss spokes.. Hmm. Did I just convince myself not to sell it?[emoji14]Sent from my SM-G920I using Tapatalk

In which case might I also suggest a motor installed in your seat tube. I believe there maybe one or two going on the 2nd hand market in Belgium.

The FFWD branded generic hubs are very good. Really, they spin forever and I never feel I'm slumming it when riding them (other wheels include Campag and Dura Ace hubs ...). I have ceramic and non-ceramic versions and can't tell the difference.
