Just a quick question,

Do I need to buy the cannondale tool to install the crank and spider ring on a new bike? It's new in the box so I don't need to remove it from another bike first.

only for removal do you need special tool.

You only need hex key (10mm or 12mm i forgot) to install cranks.

Hi thanks for the reply,

Here it says I need a KT012 tool to install the chainrings, is that not true?

You need a special tool for spider removal/installation ( or spidering installation/removal) and a seperate set of two tools for crank removal. You CAN install the crank without the tools but as the instructions state to install washers one at a time until the wave washer is correctly preloaded you will get a single go at guessing the right number of spacers. Just get the tool.

There are some online/you-tube instructional tips on removing the cranks without the tool but TBH it is a lot simpler to just buy it. :D

there are replica tools on ebay. They are really high quality and are half the price of the cannondale ones. I bought both and super happy with them. Sure there are ways to remove the cranks without the tool but was so much easier.

Hi guys I fitted this today, but I'm struggling with the spindle, I can't seem to figure how far to fit it into the frame? Should it have a even amount sticking out each side of the bb? There doesn't seem to be any marking to show?

use spacers to center it in the frame if there is any side to side play.... or to get it close to center with a better chainline and then use a pedal spacer to even the pedals left to right.

Hi, there's no play, I had to freeze it and heat the bb just to get it in!! What do you mean "get it close to centre with a better chain line"?

Iv measured the crank arms from the seat tube and the drive side is 1mm further out, am I ok to assume that everything is ok?

Did you follow the instructions per the manual?

http://media.cannondale.com/media/uploa ... r_1012.pdf

If so, you should be fine. Basically, make sure you have the 2.5mm spacer on the drive side then add spacers on the NDS to eliminate the play.

I put the spindle in the frame and then attached both crank arms, I might whip it all apart tomorrow and attaché the spindle to the drive side before fitting into the bb
