Durable 32H rear rim
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi guys,
I need your advice, please. I've been using a set of Dura Ace 9000 hubs (32) with Mavic Open Pro's rims. I'm not happy with the rear rim durability and performance and I'm looking for a different 32h rim. I know it's Weight Weenies, but the rim weight is less important.
My options are:
H Plus Son Archetype
Hed Belgium Plus
Hed Belgium C2
Or any other good alternative
By the way, I have built a big number of Open Pro's in my life and I really don't like the spoke tension of left-hand side..
Cheers

BHS C31OC, 480 grams, gets you an extra 3mm of bracing angle. http://www.bikehubstore.com/C31-p/c31-oc.htm

The R460 rim is 23mm deep not 27mm.
Rims, Ambrosio nemesis tubular is the most durable rim I can think of, other than that archetype is a good option as are DT Swiss, Pacenti e.t.c. However all MSW rims have brake track durability issues if used in the wet. anything wide is going to be night and day compared to the Open Pro in terms of performance.
spoke tension NDS will not change by changing the rim unless you make it really deep.

Building with Sapim Race DS and CXray NDS can give you a bit more NDS tension as well.

Ambrosio Excellence is pretty much a drop-in replacement for the open pro if you're as tight as I am when it comes to training wheels and want to re-use your spokes. Had a set for four years and not managed to break them yet.
