Hi all

Cannondale Si Sl chain set and red 22 drivetrain. Recently a horrible creaking/grinding noise has started and I can't figure out what it is. Not wheels, skewers BB bearing (new) or spidering as this is tight. New chain recently and cassette is just a year or so old. Bike used pretty much in the dry although for high miles. Noises are present on 2 cassettes of the same age. The tooth spacing in both cassettes seems pretty wide....

Any ideas where to go next?

Did the problem begin after you swapped out the BB? Just because it is new does not mean that it won't creak, as it seems like BB30 BB's are prone to do.

No, before hence the swap. Also it is most audible when high power is applied.

is it definitely drive train?

could it be your pedals/saddle clamp?

Have you tried a different rear wheel.

Its most annoying and all you can do is go through a process of elimination. Try everything and I mean everything, it can be very difficult to pin point noise.
I had a creaking front wheel. I checked everything but the front wheel, I thought the noise was from the bb area "first impression" . In the end a bit of grease and noise gone.
You will get there.

Not a creak but a finding noise when under pressure. 2 wheels tried but both cassettes are a year old. Could 2 RED 22 cassettes be worn after just over a year?

I'm guessing you've checked this, but it's not your front mech rubbing/needing adjustment?

Only other thing I can think of that would cause "grinding" noise.

Yep, I suspect a worn cassette and new chain.

Still baffled. The cracking noise started after 40 mins today then was intermittent. What the hell is this?
