I was able to get black plastic (nylon) end caps (ferrules) for both brake and gear cables housings. While talking to a mechanic this morning, I was told that plastic end caps for brake cable housing is not recommended. Anyone else heard about this. Just want to know before I use them.

Metal ferrules for brake housing. If the ferrule cracks or deforms it could compromise braking performance which could be a safety issue. The compressive forces on the housing and ferrule are easily enough to yield/crack a plastic ferrule.

Thanks for the feedback. I initially thought the nylon ferrules were as strong as the metal ones.
