Can anyone tell me what the differences between the two are?

I've heard that the frames are actually the same frames, in the same type of carbon - even if Specialized claims one is 11r and the other is 10r. The only difference should be the fork? Correct?

Also heard that the Pro models are what the pros are actually using, just rebranded as S-works?

The part about the difference being only the fork I've heard from 3 different dealers, that sell Specialized. Also read in on another board - http://forums.roadbikereview.com/specia ... ost4487291

Are you sure they're not just trying to sell you a Pro? Specialized's website specifically lists the Pro frame itself as 10R carbon, which directly contradicts the claims in the other thread that they have to call the whole module 10R because of the fork/seatpost. Why would they sell themselves short?

Unless you hear it from someone who works directly for Specialized itself these claims are not reliable information. As for what the Pro's actually use, good luck finding anything solid down that rabbit hole

Parlee sold the Z5 in two versions...a regular and Z5 SL. a handpicked Z5 became a Z5 SL with lighter 1.0 fork.

Definitely not the same. S-Works is normally about 100 grams lighter from what I have seen and ride wise the S-Works is stiffer and a bit more lively. At least in my experience. This photo should help clear up the weight distinction if you think they are "rebranded"

If it were rebranded as s-works that would be a helluva markup for a fork!

its about 100g difference with the same paint.

They feel about the same riding though. I had a lightly painted tarmac sl3 pro, and a yellow s-works tarmac sl3 that had thick paint (chips in the paint showed how thick it was), and they were within a few grams of each other. Built up with the same components/cockpit, and riding the same wheels, I really don't think you could notice the difference other than on the scale.

The new venge vias pro and sworks models both use the 11r carbon as per their website

I was told (granted, this is heresy) that the S-Works goes through one more step to further lean out (or squeeze out) resin. This would account for the approx. 80-100 grams weight savings. I've also heard that the BB was beefed up just a touch more. Again, this is purely hearsay but it was from a Specialized employee (a demo ride event). Specialized did produce a test graph put out about two years ago showing the S-Works frame (11R) was a little stiffer than the Pro (10R). I don't remember if this was data from the Tarmac or Roubaix. I will have to see if I can dig it up again. Regardless, just how they might differ today I don't know. Like mentioned above, a comment from someone working at Specialized is probably the most reliable. Not necessarily a dealer.
