Crappy conditions and not yet comfortable/confident on new equipment. It's nothing new. People just have short memories.

He told Caley Fretz from Velonews that when riding in demanding conditions he wasn't comfortable with the new brakes, which is why he switched back to the old Venge after a stage or two.

I mean, as it's written is is confusing, but, and I think I got it - a reword could be "a dropped stem that also houses the cables."
In the future, all cables must be hidden!!!!
