E777L wrote:I don't get why new Oltre would have CV also as suggested above. That "technology" is left for the climbing/classic bikes, as others have correctly classified the Specialissima.

The the Oltre is about speed as others above have also correctly commented. If anything, the Oltre may see a sequel of the "X-Tex" technology, given that removing it has created the cheaper XR.1 version.

So do you mean this bike is not about speed?

I will get a Specialissima Frame (fluro Celeste) in November, maybe earlier.
Will build it up with Corima Winium 990g and mixed Di2 Dura Ace and Ultegra Parts.
Pictures / weight (size 53) and ride review will follow.

Having ridden one in 53, I like it very much.
Even better than my 15 s-works tarmac, which I ride now.

The photos dont do its paintjob justice, it is really one of the most beautiful paintjobs I have ever seen.

It costs 4299 Euro just for the frameset

We have a Specialissima Fluo Celeste (57cm) due in this week for building!
It's gonna be with Campag Record grouppo and Shamal Mille wheels - should be great :)

Not to keen on the way manufacturers advertise frames as superlight and ideal for climbing - just means I have to go and find a big hill to test them out, and my poor little legs can't cope after such a long season of time-trialling :(

€4,299 - that's the recommended retail price - surely there's a deal to be done for weight weenies members though ;)

Make sure you report back with a detailed ride report

I'm a bit disappointed about the RRP - it should be priced along side the Oltre XR2 which is expensive enough as it is.

First ride today.

I dont like premature reviews but i can give a few infos.

It is stiff, very much so.

Stiffer than my 2015 tarmac with the same build.

It looks crazy good - the celeste color is really impressive.

But there is something very bad about the same color too - it is matte and not very smooth - so if it gets dirty it will stay dirty and does not let go of the oil grime and dirt.

A LOT harder to clean than my tarmac which you can essentially wipe down and it is mostly clean.

I have not felt the countervail - but the ride was only 50k.

Will come back again with more rides done.

No Photo can do this paintjob justice - it does not look as good on any photo as it does in reality

Gorgeous even in pics!
How much grams the celeste color increase over matte black (719g)? Oh, and the fork weight too.
No more Corima Winium?

Congrats, but I'll stick with my Oltre. Is the paint issue because they don't apply a clear coat to make it lighter? Interested to know about... or hopefully test in a month... the CV effect. Enjoy :)

Sweet bike! The bike is light and fast no doubt - but is it comfortable?

That's a beautiful build! Personally I'd go for a campy build, but dang!

I apply synthetic liquid car wax to my frames and it helps with cleanings. Had good luck with matte as well but gloss finish is obviously easier to clean.

Looks nice!

200k later.
A few more comments.

Countervail works.
It does not help with big potholes, the comfort for such impacts is not very good on the Specialissima.

The best place to feel the CV working is on a descend with broken tarmac.
When going over the tarmac with 55 km/h or more you will feel a bit like in a bouncy castle with most bikes because the vibrations add up and make create some ratteling.
Here CV really shines, you feel the first ratteling and then it is already over, when on other bikes the vibrations will add up and create a "bouncy castle" ride, you already feel planted on the road again.
This gives some extra confidence on the downhills.

You feel that vibrations are somehow adsorbed faster, subjective feel of the effect is not that big.
Maybe it helps a bit on longer rides, but that is really hard to tell objectively.

When you have more than a few vibrations adding to each other, you really can feel that the CV is making a big difference.
Like a few small hits after each other from rough tarmac.

Cornering:

On Rails. It feels great.
It corners very well, nearly as good as the tarmac 15.
(I think the tarmac 2015 is really a good reference for cornering, I have not ridden another bike where you can have such extreme confidence when cornering)

I have not dialed the position in perfectly, I am missing a few mm of reach now.
Maybe the cornering gets even better after fixing this.

To answer your question, the "shock adsorption" is not as good as on the tarmac. (same wheelset, same tires, same seatpost)
But countervail really works and will give some comfort and extra confidence on the downhills or certain other situations.

It is still a very stiff racing bike and not really an endurance bike.

I will try waxing, have ordered some wax for matte finish.
Lets see if this saves me some time cleaning it in the end.
