10 speed chain on 11 speed chain ring Campa more noise?
Moderator: robbosmans
I have 2 bikes, one bike with 11 speed and the other bike is not yet ready for 11 speed. I use still 10 speed cassette/10 speed chain but on 11 speed Chain rings.
I am wondering if this make more noise than 11 speed chain on 11 speed chain rings.
I am asking this because there is a slightly noise what I not cant clarify
Any experiences?
Thanks in advance

I'd suggest a chain based on the narrowest feature. So an 11 speed chain. It will clear the large chainring better in a small - small cross chain situation and will work very well in the rear.
Did sorta the opposite back in the day when I had 10 speed rear der/cassette and only a 9 speed crankset....like yourself it allowed me to transition into the new. Did the narrow 10 speed chain.

I am afraid the cassette (10sp) will be to wide for a 11 sp chain..

No, it's the other way round that's not doable (i.e. 10 chain on 11 cassette)
I have run 11spd chains on a 10s cassette for 3 years with no problem. In fact it's a bit quieter
It possibly is slightly more sensitive to cassette condition ... but that's about it

Yes I agree but in my situation; I use 10 sp chain/ 10 sp cassette and 11 speed chain rings (cranck campa), I suppose its more noisy.
