It's very funny that the new trend in aero helmet design is not far away than most low-end or kids helmets. Heavier, less openings, little venting, simpler shapes.

Have you seen older and cheaper bikes (many aluminium) have tube shapes like aero bikes. When i go to work, i see atleast two of these every day.
Bikes:

Ax Lightness Vial EVO Race (2019.01.03)
Open *UP* (2016.04.14)
Paduano Racing Fidia (kind of shelved)

Ex bike; Vial EVO D, Vial EVO Ultra, Scott Foil, Paduano ti bike.

They do look pretty similar, though I have to imagine there's quite a bit more design work behind them than the low-end/kids' lookalikes. I'm waiting to buy one myself until they get to the next generation of aero helmets:

"Introducing the new Kask Beembino - with nature-inspired W.I.N.G. vortex generators, and offensive rearward stinger weaponry for those pesky wheelsuckers. Antennae are Bluetooth and ANT+ compatible."

Finish line pictures would be infinitely better if the pros used those; imagine a musclebound world-class sprinter doing a victory salute in that.

Back on topic, I like that competition is starting to heat up in the aero helmet realm. I hope some of the new offerings can strike an even better balance between weight, cooling, and aero.

I am exaggerating of course but I am sure some of the lovely kids helmets will be more aero than several top of the line. So, I guess this:

is much more aero than this:

A few years ago the lighter helmet with the bigger number of openings was the best. Now these characteristics are not considered that important. You may laught at it but don't be surprised if your kid arrives first at the finish line!

Very true. :) It's weird the way the market changes sometimes.
