If Mavic CCU is aged, well ok, but how about Reynolds RZR and Lightweight? Would you also consider these aged?
If you look at a white paper Mavic CCU and Lightweight are almost identical.
CCU could have been lighter, but as compairson, Reynolds RZR 46 (968g) has a UCI approved team version and this set is 1185g.
It is made more durable and has same weight as CCU.
It is possible CCU could have a rounder profile, but you will have no problem with CCU in cross winds.
I agree, if someone would prefer wider tires i would look elsewhere, but for 21-23mm it is nice.
Perhaps Easton E100 could have been another option (1050g) as it is 45mm deep and wider profile phantom rims.
But Easton pushed the release of these and at the moment there is no release date at all.
You may also check out with Berk Composites on when their monoque wheelset will be released.
45mm deep, wider profile and with sintered brake tracks.

I have the older style Bora and CCUs

Bit surprised at the comment re Bora have better comfort. The opposite is true ... Bora have ok comfort (perhaps newer shape is better), but CCUs have notably good comfort vs other carbon wheels which I guess is in part a function of carbon spokes.

CCUs have a muted, unstoppable feeling to the ride quality that is quite distinct from other carbon wheelsets I've ridden

OTOH, no question that Campag hubs are better

Agree with coloclimber re travel - the CCUs are obviously far harder to fix if damaged

Do the CCU have the same external width as the CC40 and CC SLE/SLR/SLS?

20.8mm (external), measured at my own set.

22mm Schwalbe The One fits perfect on these, assuming that you want to have them "rather" flush with rim.

I've owned both, with the same tires (Veloflex Carbon) : I have preferred the Boras (Ultra II 50mm), even if a bit heavier... I have found the ride smoother than the CCUs.
Have a good ride !

I agree with cedced74, if you like a wheelset that is smoother, don't buy CCU.

However, if you like a wheelset which is more direct both in feel and usage, they are for you.

I had this debate for a long while before I finally decided on the CCUs. I wanted a race day/special day tubular wheelset and the CCUs are one of the stiffest wheelsets available (http://www.rouesartisanales.com/article-23159755.html). I'm extremely happy with the purchase as they look great and in my area (New York City), they're pretty unique. You'll see a bunch of people riding LWs but I have yet to see a set of CCUs. They also go pretty well with my bike :)

I've also read that they're pretty much bulletproof unless you get mangled in a bad crash, and the support from pros has to count for something.

I paired the CCUs with 25mm Vittoria Corsa CXs:

On an interesting note, Mavic changed the name to just Cosmic Ultimate: http://www.mavic.us/wheels-road-triathl ... c-ultimate
