Apparently Wiggins didn't think much of it.

He seems to be caught tossing his bike a lot. Primadona. I remember a tour shot a few years ago where he tossed his dogma and it rolled to a curb and stayed upright.

Not really. At least the top six were on no compromise race bikes. No Roubaix, no Domane or Synapse and as you say, no Pinarello suspension.

All it tells me is how utterly irrelevant the choice of bike really is when it comes to races like this - and how much of the "innovation" we see in the cycling industry is pure marketing.

There was only one remotely aero bike in the top six too AFAIK and they would have all weighed pretty much the same.

Invest in training and preparation is the message I took from that.

Err, do the Venge and Aeroad not count as Aerobikes anymore? [emoji6]
Get a bicycle. You will certainly not regret it, if you live.

Aero rules! It was all Terpstra could do just to hang in the tiny slipstream created by Kristoff's Canyon Aeroad.

"a tour" being Giro del Trentino 2013.

Who was riding a Venge?

The truth is Kristoff would have won yesterday on a Pegoretti. Indeed he might have even enjoyed the victory more...

Niki was on a venge. Interestingly with the septets flipped to get further forward.
Venge | Shiv TT | Langster | Dogma 60.1 | CruX | Aeroad CF SLX (WIP)

What's the point of suspension when you can't fit a decent sized tire under there? I'd be more impressed if the brake blocks were at the bottom of the calipers for added clearance.

Who engineers these bikes?

I thought Wiggins switched back to the bike with suspension a bit later in the race.

I'll agree though in that it's all about the engine. Looking forward to Paris Roubaix though.

Is it Wiggins or pinarello that's the common denominator? :-)

He threw his bike in the ditch at the Tour de France also.
