specialized tarmac 2015 rider engineered

Ok as a follow up to my previous thread about ( Should I buy a carbon frame) I was looking at the specialized tarmac sport in orange colour in size 52 , but when I was watching a product video to it they said that lay ups are all different for different sizes i.e a 52 would not be as stiff as a 56 so if you have a rider of 5ft 7 and weighed 85kg surely it would feel flexy , as they state on a vid that a smaller rider does not need the stiffness of a taller person on a larger bike . Am I right

Weight probably doesn't matter much it depends on the type of power you are putting out. Guardini and Cav ride a 49cm Tarmac on the hilly stages and they seem fine. If you are putting out 2000 watts I'd say it would be too flexy if not it should be fine. Stiffness is relative in that sense as it only needs to be stiff enough.

I have a 2013 SL4 and a 2015 model. Both S-Works Tarmaccs. The 2015 is softer but the difference is subtle. I would definitely not say my 2015 is soft. Just about right as far as I am concerned.

To be fair they are really good frames.

Overpriced IMO nowadays tho ... LOL at the alloy frame costing c £1500 ... vs Canyon and Cannondale

Not to defend Specialised but you are misinterpreting the size:stiffness thing. All they are saying is that they vary the layup to ensure that the different sizes have the same effective stiffness.

You're not likely going to find a better overall bike than the Specialized. But there are many good bikes on the market.

Given that the Tarmac is the bike other companies wind tunnel test against to show how much faster their bikes there is a strong case that it is not a good overall bike.
Smooth, stiff, light, aero (and well fitting) are features that each rider has their own set of priorities for but it's very hard to ignore one and still make claim to top performance.

My view is that bike stiffness is over-rated and that you are better off focusing on geometry , ride and comfort. A bike that's too stiff can tire one out over the course of a ride, especially on imperfect roads.

My 58cm 2015 disc is nowhere near as harsh as my SL4 to ride and IMO it actually makes it a much nicer bike to ride. It lacks no feel or liveliness when stomping on it but doesn't beat the s&*t out of me like my SL4 does on longer rides. It's so much nicer than my SL4 that the SL4 has lived on the kickr for months haha.

Don't look at what pros use, they get heavier frames with more carbon then what you can buy.

I've ridden quite some higher end carbon and aluminium frames over the past years (e.g. Look 695, Storck Fenomalist, Storck Aernario G1, Cannondale CAAD10) and the 2015 Tarmac is the best I've been one - by a margin. I can highly recommend it as it performs brilliantly in all areas - except the slight weight penalty it carries along. [emoji6]
