Once you make that choice then its about shape. I have never had an issue with saddles.

Saddles are really cheap and you can get some under a 100grms very cheaply.
I totally agree with you here. It seems that every saddle I try with less padding than the last, the discomfort/saddle sores decrease. I'm just struggling with knowing how punishing it will be on my ass with these terrible roads in NJ
a lot has to do with saddle time as well. NJ roads are terrible...and there isn't a saddle out there that will smooth out those bumps. did 56 miles yesterday and 45 today and i'm feeling it. but again, i rode on a Tune Speedneedle both days...its more on the fast track of getting back on the saddle for me. less pain later.

What I never understand about carbon is the discrepancies in price between carbon seats.
For instance you can pay 100's of dollars/pounds etc for a carbon seat that weighs a 10ogrms or you can get one from China etc for 20 pounds etc. Bike frames I can understand but saddles seat posts I don't get the extreme difference in prices. IMO you are paying for the name.

I've had 2 chinese carbon saddles and found both EXTREMELY stiff, like a bathroom tile. They were also both over 100g, which you can reach with a stripped Selle SLR too, the latter being much more comfortable.

Interesting. I have a 142grm combo on my bike and the saddle cost me £20 posted from china. Its really comfy.
Much better than the expensive one I used before. It does flex a wee bit but is not Stiff.

anyone with experience riding the smud saddle for a while? any problems with durability? I'm thinking of giving one a try.
Got an ax phoenix relatively cheap. Surprised to not hear anyone recommending it. It blows my old arione r1 out of the water in terms of both weight (63g - 85kg weight limit) and comfort even though the arione has quite dense padding.

I've been on mk1 of his saddle for about 2 seasons. Very comfy for its 67g, the new one is about 3-5g heavier.
If you are after ultra light carbon saddle, it's definitely worth of consideration. Reasonably priced, too.
And just a word of caution, maybe it has hanged recently, but Smud did not belong to, let's say, the fastest responding people out there
