I have SRAM Force levers (the ones in the pic.. no fancy graphics, just the word 'Force' and the shift lever is plain sliver with 'double tap' on one side) and Ultegra 6800 brake calipers.

Wondering about compatibility issues.
According to a couple of sites, Shimano changed the pull of these brakes and there are rumoured compatibility issues with non Shimano levers.
Anyone confirm or deny this?

These levers..

I used Sram rival with dura ace 7800 and 105 5700 brakes. they worked fine. I also reversed it- dura ace/105 levers with rival brakes. also worked fine.

All brake levers will 'work' with any sort of brake calipers. you do , however give up some performance by mismatching them. modulation is not as good-brakes either feel slightly soft or grabby, since the pull ratios aren't optimized. but they definitely work and will stop the bike.

Thanks man..

Do you think the standard 6800 pads are optimal or are there better ones out there (aluminium braking surface)?

They give very good performance for the money. I wouldn't change them out just for the sake of. they are good performers.

ultegra brake pads are fine ,but there are better all weather compounds. if its not rainy, don't worry!

When they wear out - SwissStop FlashPro GHP II Green . You'll never go back.

In terms of power and durability, they blow everything else out of the water.

I think the SwissStop BXP (Blue Extreme Pads) pads are better, in my experience. They are supposed wear more rapidly, but I have had them on my wife's bike for over two years and no issues (flat and hilly rides).
