Retro Looking Crank?

Hey Weight Weenies,

Here is a quick shot of my bike:

Nashbar frame, PRO cockpit, Shimano 105 components, Easton SLX wheels, etc. The one thing I don't like is the crank. It is a Rotor 3D 53 x 39 with aero rings and an aero spider. It should be on my TT/tri bike...

So where can I find an industrial and retro looking chainset, that will perform as well as the Rotor? My preference is silver/chrome.

Recommendations Please!!

Campagnolo Athena chrome version. Might run into some issues running that with 105, however.

This one is polished which looks awesome.

Campy Athena is a good call as well and it should work fine with the 105.



Last but not least and I think this could look really good, the White Industries VBC crankset. I have one and its a great crank and looks great. I have it in black but you can go chrome for a more classy look.

Thanks! Ya, I would have immediately gone for the Hollowgram, but it is a standard English BB... The White Industries crank looks perfect, I'm gonna try to find that.

Its an awesome crank, super happy with mine. I have mine shifting a 50/32 on my gravel/touring bike and its perfect. Super easy to switch rings out too and looks great. Not cheap but not crazy expensive either.

It looks like the Paul crank is only available for single speed. Damn.

Additionally, in my search for a 'retro' inspired crank it appears a square taper BB is the most common option. I have a little trepidation installing a square taper, because it's been about 17 years since I've used one. Is that justified?

I was thinking about ordering this one from Planet X USA (the aesthetics and price are perfec, but again it's square taper):



Anyone have experience with it?

Square taper BBs will stay for long. Have them on my steel bikes, just smooth perfection. Don't worry.
