the 'Alex' that sent that question in to Zinn is participating in another Thread on RBR. He posted up today that Zinn sent him a message and said he was mistaken. It won't work.

to run (11) you need;
shifters
front and rear der.
cassette
chain

Has anyone ever found a U.S. based e-Bayer selling these modified cassettes?

Another mistake to the tally...

Anybody know if the 11spd derailleurs move farther or less with the same cable pull?

According to Art's Cyclery's article(http://blog.artscyclery.com/science-behind-the-magic/science-behind-the-magic-drivetrain-compatibility/), Shimano 11s road RD has lower pull ratio(1.4) than 10s(1.7).

*Thanks Eric for providing the link in another thread! http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=130892

I can see where some giblet head, (me) on some Forum would get caught up in the heat of the moment, want to be the first guy with the latest, cool tech info and post up about a subject without actually verifying.

But Lenny isn't one of us posting up on a forum. The guy is getting paid and he is on a national, I suppose world wide stage. What would be his incentive for posting up non-verified info?? I just do not get it.

On the Campy side I run Athena 11 shifters with a newer Veloce grupo no issues. (11speed cassette and chain)

based on http://blog.artscyclery.com/science-beh ... atibility/

it seems that someone might be able to get 11 spd shimano shifters and an 11 spd campy derailleur to shift a 10 speed shimano (or sram) cassette. this would allow someone to use their old cassettes and wheels... i don't know if you'd need a 11 or 10 spd chain. this is all in theory. obviously the limit screws would have to be set to eliminate one shifter click.

shimano 11 spd shifter pull: 2.7
campangolo 11 spd derailleur ratio: 1.5 (i think this is rounded up from 1.45 based on back-calculation)
shimano 10 spd cassette cog width: 3.95

2.7*1.5 = 4.05, but if the actual derailleur ratio is closer to 1.45, 2.7*1.45 = 3.92 - very close to the 10 spd cog width. i'm guessing a 10spd chain required to match cassette.

anyone want to try it?

Tbh, even if you could, you'd be missing out on the braking and the new front derailleur, which are far and away a bigger draw for the current gen Shimano than an extra cog out the back.

105 5800 derailleur are pretty reasonably priced as a stop-gap solution.
