That's normal. I guess they figure that you're going fast enough to be in the trimmed position when you go from the big to the small ring.

I find it much better than the old 'straight to the inside' downshift.....

The trim shift should be subtle. On both my 11 speed drivetrains, I only need the trim when I go to my largest cog. Often I don't even use it because the rubbing is so light it is not noticeable.

When I was having the warranty issue, the chain rubbed on the fifth cog.
