Any Look 585 ww owners still out there. I know the frame is old in terms of ww standards, but my golly I am tempted by picking up a used one. Seeing them go for $500-600 range for a frameset. Any reason now to pick up one for that price?

I bought a 585 frameset a year ago, built it up, and it immediately became a favorite. It's like everything is "just right". Threaded BB too.

agree with the above, the ride is smooth, it tracks well, and it's fairly light (a non-boutique part build still fell in the mid 15 range for me with lightish clinchers ~1450 grams)

I couldn't resist a photo. From last winter after the build.

2007 model
15.5 lbs with look keo max2 pedals
(record 10-speed, now with pacenti wheels, and record 10 crankset)

i really don't have anything else to compare to except my ridley damocles (chorus 11, hed ardenes), which is 1 lbs heavier in the frame. and i think that 1 extra pound makes the ridley sprint and climb better.

i have no intention of giving up the Look, and will ride it until it falls apart.
the 585 is often compared favorably to a colnago c40/50
i don't consider myself a WW at all.
try road bike review - manufacturers - look
there's a lot of 585 talk over there

I've got 07 Ultra (pics on her somewhere). Only keeper in my stable!

Campag Record/Chorus 10 spd

6.9kg with Zondas and 6.5kg with 202s

Superb frame and strong. Decent weight at 1kg for frame plus <300g fork

Front end is a bit less surefooted than the oversized headtube designs these days, though on the upside the ride quality is smooth

Front end stiffness plus a couple hundred grams weight reduction are the only areas of real improvement between the nearly 10 year old 585 design and today's best carbon frames

Agree with above. Modern tapered head - tube designs do track better. My 585 is less sure - footed at high speed descents but fine as an all-day cruiser.

When did you get rid of your 586?

585, at that price range, would still be a sensational bike.
