Colnago V!-r weight
Moderator: robbosmans
Received my V1-r today after being lost in Chicago customs for 3 weeks. Very disappointed in weight and finish. This is my 3rd Colnago , an extreme c, M10 and now the v1-r. Got the black on black and although the finish is smooth there is a line running down the center of the down tube from where the mold was. There are places throughout frame and fork where at the right angle looks as if parts rubbed against one another during curing.
The worst finish of probably a dozen high end frames over the last 30 years.
Most disappointing is the weight, advertised weight is 835 grams for 48 S . My 50 S weigh's in @ 1030, yes it does include headset bearing and seatpost clamp but for comparision my M 10in 52 S weighed 1096. Only 66 grams less. worse yet you must use their proprietary seatpost which is a pig at 208 grams, my old post was 112 grams . I'm starting the build 30 grams heavier than my old bike. I realize almost all builder embellish on their frame weights but 15 % is a joke.
Enough venting.
I'm sure it will ride and handle great but won't be any lighter going uphill.

hmm.. I hear you on that it's not much lighter than the old M10 especially at one smaller size, but it doesn't seem to be much heavier than advertised weight. Don't headset and seatpost clamp weigh about 120 to 130 grams together putting your 50s at about 900g? which is 65g heavier than advertised weight for one size smaller frame. Am I missing something?

Did you contact Colnago before posting this here?
Think it is fair to give them a chance to react before...

One dealer told me he always check the C59 frames before shipping them out as some had some minor paint issues.
I did never buy a C59 so i have no clue if this is happening from time to time.

I weighed seatpost clamp, 21 grams, lower bearing from M10 was 26 grams, should be the same or dam close, puts frame at 957 , still a far cry 835. Nothing one can do with post as their is no alternatives.
Purchased through Bellatisport , Andrea is great to work with and would recommend. I'm fairly certain he did not open box and inspect before shipping from the way it was packaged.

+1
remember also that C60, which is a much better frame, is much heavier as well.

My LBS is building one and it looks great!. Not a sweet lugged steed, however a fast looking far East machine. I sure like the way they are connecting the brakes to the frame and fork. Odd that they left the brake bridge on the seat stays???
Let's finish the ride with a 20% grade.

In the real world 100 grams is not going to make a measurable difference. Focus on the ride quality and how it handles. The weight is a means and not an end.
