i had the misfortune to crash yesterday, front wheel suddenly slid out to the right, i went left and though wearing a helmet managed somehow to hit the roadside barrier with my jaw, i think i got a hand out too as one finger is a bit swollen, but no bad injury so i'm just relieved about that, i do not really remember much between the barrier, some people crying out and a taxi driver asking if i was ok when i got up

my obermayer front wheel didn't do so well, either it buckled or maybe i landed on it, but the carbon fibre is distorted and split from the inner rim most of the way towards the brake track

the damage seems to coincide with the diagonal line in the lay up where the cf joins up, which is why i wonder if it buckled

no sign of any tyre damage/puncture, the road was wet so perhaps there was some oil there

i have serviceup so just sent the wheel back today by dhl

has anyone experience of what happens next? i already miss my lovely wheel :(

on wednesday i had an email from lightweight service to say the damaged wheel would be replaced with obermayer gen 4, and offering to also swap the rear for a gen 4 at nominal charge so that i get complete new wheels that match

exchanged a couple more messages about how to return the other wheel, and now am sitting here in a slight daze at just how generous and kind they have been to me

confirmed this morning that the new wheels should arrive next week

absolutely excellent service!

Fantastic news!!! I am very happy for you. I have two sets of Lightweights and it is nice to know they stand behind their product.

new wheels arrived today

in my eagerness to get them ready, i committed a ww sin by applying the first thin coat of glue before weighing them

including that and the 10/11s spacer they are 391/542g front/rear, which is around 25-30g lighter than the gen 3 ones were

profile of the rear is asymmetric so that valve hole 'bump' is all on the drive side

the finish is smoother overall than the gen 3 and satin rather than glossy

overall a great present from lightweight, should be ready just in time for a christmas ride :)

it was just over 80% discount vs. uk price for the rear, plus shipping

also, the replacements were a complete new set, wheel bag, quick releases, brake pads, extenders etc., which i had not expected

like i say, it was a great present from lightweight!

Maybe I should have completely destroyed my wheelset instead of just asking for a replacement free-hub body...
