Help needed!!! ZIPP VumaQuad cranks
Moderator: robbosmans
Okay guys! It's been a while since I was last here...
Now, However, I find myself in a bit of a tight spot, and I must turn return here for your assistance with this issue:
So, my trusty Vuma quad crank set has been causing me some concerns, and it turns out that the 'aluminum spindle bolt' was worn out and came apart when I tried to tighten it with a torque wrench. It can be seen on page 3 in this link: http://www.zipp.com/_media/pdfs/manuals/vumaquad_%20manual.pdf
ZIPP can't help me, as the crank set is discontinued
My question is, if anybody has a ruined set lying around or know of someone who has that bolt lying around somewhere???
I really don't want to find another crank...
TY

Just a wild idea but would something like this fit?

I actually thought of that, too. They look the same diameter - but I will definately have to give it a go! Thank you very much!

I just ordered this bolt from FSA
They really look the same, so let's hope they are!

Sure thing! I am expecting the bolt to turn up within a few days.

I gave up on them when 2 pairs I had the spindle started to separate from the spider. G/L!
You shouldn't have! I found a solution yesterday with an FSA bolt which is much more durable than the original one. I am in the process of finding the order-number on the bolt, and one of these days I will make a post, that explains the process in-depth.
Thank you all for your help and suggestions!

Great that you now get more use out of them, especially for what they cost. Glad to be of help.

So! The repair of the crank went like this:
(I am referring to the chart on page 3 in this link: http://www.zipp.com/_media/pdfs/manuals/vumaquad_%20manual.pdf)
- The bolt used (16) is allegedly from a FSA K-Force crank from around 2010 - the newer ones might work too!
- You need to keep numbers 14, 15 and 17, as the thread on 14 is reversed on the ZIPP part, and not reversed on the FSA part.
- To loosen number 14, we used a set pliers with pointed edges (I have no idea, what they are called in english - sorry)
- Then we just replaced the bolt, and put it all back together.
The FSA bolt is a bit heavier and ,I guess, more durable than the ZIPP one.
I hope this can be of some help for others
Thanks a lot!

We are trying to figure that out - we found the bolt in a drawer at the shop, so my mechanic is searching for the invoice
