After too many years and miles to count, my trusty Fizik Aliante carbon saddle has had it's MicroTex / pseudo-leather wear through at the edges, and rather than throw it away, I thought I might try to modify it, then have it recovered as a winter project.

As I am getting older and starting to develop prostate issues, I thought this might be a good opportunity to experiment with making a cut out in the saddle before recovering it.

Here are my questions:

1. How much of a cut-out should I make, given the Aliante has the softer, more flexible centre anyways?

2. Any recommendations regarding the type of glue to use?

3. Any recommendations regarding a material, MicroTex or other, and a source to purchase a small piece?

Thanks in advance! I look forward to your suggestions!
