I don't want to hijack this thread, but I too have a problem with my SRAM Red derailleur.
I can adjust it so that it works flawlessly in the big chainring....but then I will have trouble in the small ring (going from about 7 sprocket to 8, it will not go up.)
I then adjust the tensioner so that the derailleur will move in the small ring (working flawlessly) and then it won't go from the 12 to the 11 tooth (too much tension.)
These are the steps I have tried so far:
Bike:
Trek Madone 2014 7 series.
My Red jockey wheels have a little bit more play than her Force wheels - maybe 1mm at the rim.
This is driving me nuts - I cannot think of what it could be. Can anyone help?
Many thanks,
Drew

These are the steps I have tried so far:
- New cables (two times - latest are shimano, earlier replacement was jagwire.)
new liners - rear loop and then attached to the shifter. (shimano)
New derailleur hanger
I tried my GF's force derailleur on my bike and had the same problem. Her bike shifts flawlessly. Trek 5 series.
I lubed my Red derailleur.
My front shifting is excellent
I swapping rear wheels.
I tried a new cassette.
BB barings are sram and installed properly with all washers and parts.

My problem is no longer and I am posting for reference.
Recap: rear derailleur was impossible to tune - if I got it right in the big ring, it was bad in the small. and visa versa.
Culprit: rear cable housing loop was too short (by about 4.5cm).
Solution: replace the rear housing with LONG loop (so that the final 3cm of the cable runs "straight" into the the derailleur. Now it shifts easily, without effort and changes gear faultlessly. No more wishing for di2.
