I have a Fizik saddle where the protective cloth looking material wrapped around the rails has started to peel off... Rails are fine. I want to replace the protective material but not sure what to use. Is it just some type of cloth soaked in epoxy? Any suggestions?

I removed mine. It was too tight of a fit for a carbon rail saddle on an Eriksen sweet post.
It worked fine with no tape on it.

Yikes! Isn't its purpose to protect the carbon tubing from clamping forces?

I think it's just scrim cloth to help prevent the saddle from slipping.

It was on Fizik Kurve saddle I had and that had metal rails. It just went brittle and fell off.

I think it's for both protecting rails from clamping and keeping the saddle from slipping. I was able to get a Cervelo clamp to work by clipping compressing the material. I checked it occasionally and there never was a problem.
