Looking for a budget crankset that will work with English thread BB for my commuter bike.... Something I can find on the used market for cheap... in the range of $100 or so would be a gem, preferably with the bb. It can be a single or double ring crankset with a 53 tooth chainring.

Right now the bike has the original 3 piece square taper bottom bracket with alloy arms... its fine, but Im getting a lot of play in the bottom bracket.... its tight but still has play. This would be a good opportunity to change both BB and crankset.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Suggestion would be to search. This is a very well covered topic.

If you don't want to spend more than $100, I recommend replacing the BB and keep the cranks you've got... although you never mentioned what you're currently using.
