Shimanoo 11 Speed Chain Reattachment
Moderator: robbosmans
I have a shimano 6800 11 speed chain that I assembled with just the standard shimano assembly pin. Now I need to take off the chain to put on a new grouppo, but the chain is not that worn yet so I would like to keep on using it.
Would I be able to put it back together with a 11 speed missing link from KMC or do I need to find another shimano assembly pin.

I've used a KMC 10sp missing link on my DA 11sp chain since day 1 with absolutely no issues.

For 11s Ultegra 6800 chains which I have run with both DA 9000 and Campy 11s, my attachment method of choice is the KMC Missing Link for 11s. I don't do the pin. Nor FWIW do I do the pin thing for Campy chains either which takes a more elaborate chain tool.
I like the KMC 11s Missing link for all 11s chains.

yes, i've been using the KMC missing link 11sp for both Campy SR11 and Shimano DA9070 and 9000 without issues. the 10sp you can reuse, but according to what's written on the 11sp KMC missing link, its a one time only use.

Why do you need to break the chain to put on a new groupset?
Take out the jockey wheel, no need for chain breaking.
Undo the screw on the cage.
EDIT: Maybe some of the cheaper ones are riveted.

Even the 6800 FD does not have a screw

EDIT: If the OP wants to put the chain on other bike (and not just change a groupset on the same bike), the chain will be stuck in the frame anyway.
