I ride a lot of miles (> 10,000 per year) and I can't really give you a number for how many flats I get per year, because it is so random. I will go 8 months without getting a flat, then get 3 in two days. If I had to pick a number based on my years of riding I'd probably go with around 5000 K (or about 3000 miles), but that is a wild ass guess, because the randomness of it (and the fact that I don't write each flat down) make it impossible for me to give a real number. Anyone else in that boat?
2 in the last 2 years- one in a crash about a year ago, and one last month, in which I found a piece of wire sticking out of the tire (it looked like a piece of a car tire steel belt with a bend in it). Before that it was probably 2 years at least. Michelin Pro 3's with either Conti supersonic or Vittoria race lite tubes.
I agree with rowdy (above) that it is generally related to random bad luck.

As previously noted, the percentages in the poll are skewed by having twice as many clinchers as tubulars in the survey. If we separate them into two groups we get results that are more relevant:
Tubulars, 25 total votes:
<300K 3 votes 12%
300K-800K 2 votes 8%
800K-1500K 3 votes 12%
1500K+ 12 votes 48%
Never 5 votes 20%
Clinchers, 50 total votes:
<300K 2 votes 4%
300K-800K 6 votes 12%
800K-1500K 11 votes 22%
1500K+ 21 votes 42%
Never 10 votes 20%
Now, if I could get people to stop voting I wouldn't have to recalculate those numbers....

You can do the math when the poll closes.
Another factor I did not ask about was the weight of the wheel system. I'm guessing the average weight of the clincher (extra rim weight, tape, tube and tyre, or tubless) is heavier than the tubular system.

Who gets 300,000 to 1,500,000 km out of tyre?
i think you misinterpreted the poll. it should read 300-1500km.

"k" is the standard abbreviation for "thousand". I also had to take a second look to decide the intended meaning.
I've had three flats in the last two years, so I decided the average was 1500+ km. Last flat was from nailing the point of a chip seal stone dead-on. Frankly with the conditions of our roads I'm surprised I don't flat more often. Around here we also have goat heads, which are very stout triangular thorns that nature has designed to always land point up. (Google goat heads and look at images). Not so common on roads where autos clean them up, but it's not unusual to flat both front and rear in a single unlucky event, so I always carry patch kit, spare tube, and for this reason consider CO2 to be a gamble.

Conti GP4000s 2 pinch flats in 1500 miles. in 1000 miles on open corsa 1 proper flat. On veloflex open corsa's 2 flats when it was wet very close to setting off from home. On tubs probably 1000 miles on Pave's in the last 12 months and 2 flats one on a december ride one on the tour of flanders route in April. In total since march 4000 miles or so covered.
So plenty of flats but the GP4000s and Open Corsa are serving me well this year. When I get another set of wheels built up I will try out conti tubs or maybe schwable one.
The poll is flawed too flawed to use.

Conti GP4000s -- debris sliced up sidewall. didn't know until last night. tube finally gave way and scared my wife with a pop and shhhhhhhh.
before that, over 4,000 miles, no flats on that tire. last puncture was on wet roads after heavy rain...picked up glass or something that gave me a flat. almost always a flat...and don't ride much in rain...only when caught off guard.

It would be interesting to know which clinchers...specifically the ones that people have had the best luck with.
I'll start it...#1 Maxis Detonator 23's #2 Conti GP 4000 25's

So I did some spreadsheet work to break out the Tubular from Clincher answers. As I didn't like the result, my only excuse is that the clinchers must weigh more and the ride sucks. But WW posters think they flat less on clinchers.
