Recently the board software has been updated and there are some known bugs/failures:
- Avatars are currently not being displayed ✔ FIXED
- Tapatalk connection is currently broken ✔ FIXED
- Avatars cannot be uploaded ✔ FIXED

Please note that we will soon do some changes in WW board template design in case to get a fully mobile/desktop responsiveness board!

Hi

Can anyone help with why the lockring keeps loosening? I torqued it up to spec and the bike is a month old. argh...

1/ Clean up and check both sets of threads for damage.

2/ Try another lockring. Could just be that the threads were cut poorly, but probably not.

3/ Exceed stated torque until it holds and/or use threadlock.

Assuming here that the cassette body has not come loose. When that happens the cassette lockring can be tight, but if you pull on the sprockets they can shift sideways so that the lockring contacts with the RH dropout.

If you've over-torqued the lock ring, next time cassette is apart check if the spacer between 6 & 7 cogs is busted. Mine was the first time I took it apart to clean (having never torqued it myself), so shop warrantied it and said Campy changed the spec from 40 Nm to 15 because of this (but I've never read that anywhere else so shop could have been BS-ing me).

There are two different 12T sprockets, one for cassettes starting with 12T and a different one that goes below the 11T. One has "knurling" (for the lock ring) and the other doesn't. There also appear to be two different lock rings in the parts catalog (http://www.campagnolo.com/media/files/0 ... part_B.pdf) - CS-112, and CS-111 "for Z 11", which I presume means 11T as the first sprocket. They certainly look different in the diagrams. I don't know if the cassette can even be assembled properly with the wrong 12T or wrong lock ring, but maybe there was some mix-up with these?

You don't state what your ratio is but if it's 12-something and you don't have the knurled 12T I can see where the lock ring might loosen. I'm not a mechanic, just speculating.

certain lack of info.

was this a brand new, never messed with, bike and cassette? are you sure?

which cassette is it?

how did you know it was loose?

are you sure it's not a loose freehub?

what torque spec did you use?

have you checked the spacers?

I have always used gentle torque on my lockrings and never a problem.

I have a ham-fisted friend who took delivery of a brand new Campy wheelset, overtorqued the lockring, stripped the threads, and was then in immediate need of a new freehub. Don't be that guy.

There are definitely different lock rings for different campagnolo cassettes.
